"If God had a singing voice, it would sound much like Andrea Bocelli!" says Canadian pop diva Celine Dion. And it is true; the blind, Italian tenor's gift is truly amazing. And you'll be able to see him soon--right here in Taichung!

Becelli lost his eyesight at the age of 12. Afterwards, he graduated from the University of Pisa with a law degree and worked as a state's attorney before striding into a groundbreaking musical career that would eventually capture the hearts and ears of fans all over the world.

The Mega-Star Graces Taichung
After numerous attempts and lots of hard work, Taichung's Mayor Jason Hu is finally able to say, "Bocelli's coming to Taichung!" This talented singer will be performing in Taiwan for the very first time in our own Intercontinental Baseball Stadium on April 19th. Hu added that Bocelli will be performing twenty songs, plus encore tunes, so it will definitely be a show worth going to, and, without a doubt, viewers will be getting more than their money's worth.

Bocelli's debut performance in Taichung will be accompanied by the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra, who also performed with Pavarotti during his farewell tour and left him quite satisfied. Bocelli's concert will not only be an affair to remember in Taichung, but also a high-profile event for Taiwan. The Taichung City Government will be providing all the necessary administrative support of this musical blessing, so that the local and international audience will be able to enjoy all that Taichung city has to offer in regards to great food, shopping, and leisure.

Andrea Bocelli's singing touches a vast audience; his true and unique talent is a phenomenon of the modern musical landscape and crosses the worlds of both classical and popular music. The fact that Bocelli is performing here this time is considered a great honor to Taiwan and Taichung; and this also shows that Taiwan shall not be absent in the international stage of music.

A Voice that Speaks to the Heart
The Washington Post describes Bocelli's voice as "radiant…with a soulful purity that is absolutely mesmerizing." The Italian musical legacy is known as the world's best-selling tenor; his career kicked off in the mid-90s and his albums have sold over 50-million copies world-wide. Warm and pleasant, the tenor's voice speaks to you, no matter what language he singing in; his operatic styling possesses power and fragility at the same time, acting as a potent instrument of emotion and sensitivity.

The Executive Supervisor of classical and jazz at EMI Records, Mr. Fu Qing-liang, shared with us that the programs listed in Bocelli's concert are all pieces from Italian composers. We can expect to hear from Verdi in "La Traviate", Mascagni's "Cavalleria Rusticana", the popular "E Lucevan Le Stelle" from Puccini' "Tosca", and Di Capapua's "O sole Mio." Besides Bocelli, the concert will also feature a soprano, a bass, and the Taipei Philharmonic Chorus, who will all be accompanying Andrea Bocelli in a few of his songs.

Island-Wide Excitement Grows
Bocelli's extravagant performance is hosted by The Management of New Arts (MNA); the group's Executive Art Director, Mr. Niu Xiao-hua, stated that 8,000 tickets for this show were sold in the first six hours. The entire stadium will fit 18,000 patrons. So far, 50% of the tickets have been purchased by people in the north, 30% by those in central, and the remaining 20% from the south.

After a series of major sporting events like the Intercontinental Cup, the Asian Cup, World Cup, and the Olympic qualifying games, this is a great opportunity to let the Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium shine in a whole new light.

More Background on Andrea Bocelli
Born on September 22, 1958, Bocelli grew up on a family farm in Lajatico, Tuscany. As a young boy, he studied several musical instruments, including the piano, flute, and saxophone. During his childhood, he developed a passion for opera. At the age of 12, an accident during a football match caused him to go blind. However, with the support of his parents and his own personal persistence, Bocelli graduated as a Doctor of Law and spent one year working as a court appointed lawyer before venturing into his musical career.
