The 2010 LOHAS & Summer Fun Carnival in Taichung County starts on July 10 (Sat.). Activities include the Easy Go package tour project in Taichung, Coastal Section and Agricultural Section of Taichung County, the 2010 Island-Wide Giant Bike Race, and 2010 Musical Instrument Festival. All of these activities are free and promise to provide wonderful, memorable experiences. Everyone is warmly welcomed to participate and enjoy a splendid summer vacation in Taichung.

July is the start of another summer tourism season and the Taichung County Government will be hosting a series of events under the "2010 LOHAS & Summer Fun Carnival in Taichung County" from July 9 to 25. The main event will be the 2010 Musical Instrument Festival on the weekend of July 17-18 at the Houli Horse Farm. There will be 15 themed areas on the festival grounds, including the Musical Stage, Hands-On Musical Instrument Experience, Musical Competition Stage, Musical Maze, Musical Instrument Creation, Show-Off Stage, Percussion Exhibition, Accordion Exhibition, Musical Instrument Hospital, Musical Instrument Shopping Street, Food Court, Bicycling Area, Horse Riding Performances, and Cocktail Competition. The event is free and open to public, inviting all to come to Houli for a weekend of delicious food and delightful musical fun.

LOHAS & Summer Fun Carnival
Many unique activites are a part of this carnival, including the Taichung County Products Exhibition from July 9 to 11, displaying various Taichung County agricultural produce, pastries and art works at the Fongyuan and Pingtung branches of Pacific Department Store.

2010 LOHAS Taichung County Bicycling Easy Go: Held on July 18 at the Houli Horse Farm, this event focuses on family bicycling trips along the Houli-Fongyuan Bicycling Path and Tong Feng Bikeway. Come enjoy some family time and try some delicious food on the way.

Taichung County Cocktail Competition: Talented cocktail artists from around the country will be competing in groups using the white and red wines from Taichung County wineries as their drink base.

Taichung County Easy Go Package Tour: For four weekends starting from July 10, there will be free one-day bus tours (insurance not included) to various tourist sites. Tour routes include: Dongshi-Guguan Easy Go, Bicycling and Hiking Easy Go, Scenery Easy Go, and Summer Ocean Side Easy Go. All routes include three to five tourist sites. Also don't miss the 15th 2010 Island-Wide Giant Bike Race that follows from July 24 to 25. This year it will take place at Tieh-jen (Iron) Mountain in Dajia township. The competition will include highway trails, downhill trails, a recreational mountain-climbing competition, tours of Dajia township sites, a Dajia resident mountain-climbing competition, and four-person relay race.

The Food and Tourism Carnival: From July 17-18 at the Houli Horse Farm, will include horse-riding performances, bicycling performances, a Taichung County Products Exhibition booth, and a food court.

Tourism Lottery
Holders of the 2010 LOHAS & Summer Fun Carnival lottery tickets from July 1-24 may participate in the lottery by receiving stamps from one of the tourist sites and event, for the chance to win an electric motorcycle from China Motor, a high-end bicycle, spa coupons or more.

2010 Musical Instruments Festival
Famous accordion performer Lee, Ping-huei will be performing at the event opening ceremony and musical educator Chen, Chung-hsiu will showcasing his accordion collection. There will also be joint performances of accordion performers and hands-on activities for those interested in experiencing a taste of music. You can also participate in the creation of musical instruments, find your way out of the musical labyrinth or get a few music-loving friends together for a competition. Come show off your musical talent and have fun with everyone.

Music Performance Stage: 10 excellent performances are prepared for the two-day event with groups including Taiwan Youth Band, Lee Ping-huei + Sounds of Houli + Fongyuan City Youth Chinese Orchestra (FCYCO) and the Taichung City Symphony Orchestra.

Musical Instruments Arena: All saxophone and percussion jazz performers are encouraged to jam with each other on this stage, providing great music and fun for the audiences.

Hands-On Musical Instrument Experience: The hands-on opportunity with great variety of instruments, such as violins, drums, saxophones, flutes and guitars, will make the experience all worthwhile.

Musical Instruments Shops: Display of various high-quality but reasonably-priced musical instruments with live demonstrations.

Music Show Stage: From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, musicians are welcomed to show off their skills on stage. All kinds of instruments may register and performers will receive a souvenir gift after their performance.

Creative Musical Instruments Area: Learn how to create your own instruments. You can create a guitar out of fishing string, a block of wood and a paper box, or make a clapper out of metal bottle lids tapped on folded paper plates. You can design your own look to make your instrument more unique.

Accordion Exhibition Hall: The exhibition includes over 30 types of accordions from major brands around the world. The instruments are provided by former principal of Nan Yang Elementary School, Chen Chung-hsiu, who also accompanied famed opera singer Pavarotti during his performance at the National Concert Hall. The exhibition introduces the world of accordions to visitors and welcome the public to get involved with these instruments. Simple instructions and performances will also take place.

Music Labyrinth: The Music Maze offers various obstacles with different questions to challenge participants. Pick a route and find your way to a take-home prize.

Percussion Exhibition Hall: This exhibition includes high-quality drum kits, professional marimbas and other percussion instruments. It also features live performances by well-known local underground bands.
