Greater Taichung's "Rock in Taichung" festival is an annual event now marking its ninth year. The 2016 festival will take place at natural eco-friendly venues such as the Imperial Sugar Factory near the rear entrance of the Taichung Railway Station and another area around Le Ye Elementary School. With an added "Future Forests Music Festival" label this year, the event aims to utilize music to develop "future forest blueprints" in this city with cooperation between residents, businesses and Taichung City Government. The city government also hopes to promote neighborhood development and care-for-nature concepts at the same time.

There will be four main festival stages, respectively focused on the specific musical styles of rock, folk, hip-hop, and electronic. Invited guest performers will include the popular musicians, rock bands, independent singers, and famous creative artists. There will also be special performances by children's groups on the grassy areas surrounding LeYe Elementary School, making this a outstanding musical event for all ages.

Left: LeYe Elementary School and Imperial Sugar Factory in the east district of Taichung will be the venue for this year's "Rock in Taichung" event.
Right: The long-standing LeYe Elementary School used to be a sugar factory school, where teachers and students once grew organic rice and vegetables on the campus.

The sugar factory is an important historic landmark closely tied to the history of LeYe Elementary School and several valuable historical images and stories from the factory and school will be presented at the event. There will also be a wide variety of traditional eateries, handicrafts and non-government organizations represented. In order to promote "go-green" concepts, chopsticks and bowls will not be provided by any vendors, as visitors will be asked to provide their own utensils as a waste-reduction measure. There will be recycled art appreciation event for visitors as part of an effort to make this not only a memorable time to enjoy the beauty of music but also a way to promote a better environment.
