In keeping with the spirit of the April "Hole in the Wall" article I have found another Ethnic food place that was designed for Ex-Pat workers. This one has Indonesian Cuisine, but again don't expect the "Ritz". We are talking about a place where workers come to eat the real food from their country. The hours here are a little less frequent but the food is fantastic.

The place is located down near the Taichung Park on a Lane off of Tze Yo Rd. If you are coming from Chung Jen rd. take a right and head towards the park, the lane is on the Left (across from the new Electric Co. building) just before you reach the McDonald's. Jaya Karta is about 15 meters up the lane on the Left-hand side. The hours are Mon-Sat. 12:00-6:00 and Sunday 9:00- 7:00. However Food is only served on Saturday and Sunday. Monday through Friday you can buy the Indonesian Items for sale, which include Indonesian ingredients, Medicine, Cigarettes and other Knick-Knacks. If you like to smoke Indonesian Clove cigarettes he has a large selection at a great price (NT$35-NT$50).

The dishes, which are served on Saturday and Sunday, are served in a Buffet style, so you can try a number of different dishes for a small amount of money. Some of the dishes that are available are Gadu Gadu (an Indonesian salad), Satay (barbecued meat on a stick served with a peanut sauce), Nasi Panang (a curried rice dish) and a large selection of Curried Meat. Each portion is only NT$20, so you can try quite a bit of everything for a low price. The owner's name is Ricky and his mother¡î>¦î>s name is Lanny, They are Chinese but their has family lived in Indonesia for a few generations. So both their Chinese and Indonesian are native languages, Ricky also speaks English as well.

The one drawback about this place is that they are only open for meals on the weekend, but when I asked Ricky about this he said that he wasn't getting enough customers during the week to make it worthwhile to serve food during the week. So he might be willing to serving food during the week if you show him the business is there. Give it a try on the weekend and I think you'll be impressed.
