It is hard to imagine that over a decade ago the now renowned tourist spot, Jing Ming 1st Street, was a desolate and empty art street. At "In with the new, out with the old" restaurant, a chat with the owner--nicknamed "Poisonous Scorpion"--is a lesson in the history of this street. Over the past decade, the shops on the street have already passed through several hands. And yet, "In with the new" remains, supported by the owner's careful planning, insistence on quality, and continuous innovation. "Momma's Simple Dish" changes daily and is a favorite of old patrons. "Private Dry Noodles" are aromatic and chewy. Sesame Oil Chicken Hot Pot, with its savory and greaseless soup, is by far the most popular nourishing dish. Also, the pride and joy of Poison Scorpion are the desserts that she personally has selected. One time, a German-educated professor ordered the German Baked Pudding and was moved to tears by its authenticity and tastiness.
