English-style Breakfast Brunch
at The Londoner
143, HuaMei West St, Sec. 1
 |
By Douglas Habecker Translated by Ann Li
Given its name, it's no wonder that The Londoner
puts a slightly more English-style spin on its breakfast offerings.
Each weekend from noon to 5 p.m., customers gather at this
well-known pub and restaurant for the popular brunch. For
NT$250, they get coffee, juice and bread, plus a choice of
five out of 10 selections, which include bacon, fried or scrambled
eggs, English sausage, baked beans, ham, chips, Boerewors
(South African sausage), hash browns, and fried mushrooms.
ccording to owner Paul Gee, his South African customers naturally
love the boerewors, a pork and beef sausage marinated in white
wine with herbs. Paul's fellow Englishmen like the baked beans
(in a tomato sauce), English sausages and chips (french fries
to Americans). Americans and Canadians go for the hash browns
with eggs. Finally, everyone seems to order bacon: "Everyone
likes the pig," says Paul. |
