At Lan Na Thai Restaurant, everything from the decor and set- up to the food and service is elegant and comfortable. The restaurant's lovely ambiance compliments their delicately prepared dishes.
Lan Na has two branches in Taichung. The manager of the ChongDe branch, Chen Ci-lang, recommends their Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab with Golden Curry (NT$420). After being fried in the wok, the crispy crab is topped with flavorful curry sauce, and then stir-fried with eggs. The Deep Fried Chicken with Chili & Lemon Sauce (NT$280) and Coconut Cream Chicken Soup (NT$180) are other popular choices here. The first dish is made with boneless chicken and unique seasonings; the chicken really absorbs the sauce after being fried in a pan, making it rich and tasty. The latter dish is stewed with tidbits like Jew's Ear fungi, button mushrooms, and sliced chicken breasts.
Steamed Sea Bass in Lemon Sauce (NT$390), a classic Thai dish, is made with a lemon dressing that has just the right amount of sour and spicy flavors and is not overbearing. The hard-to-find Tamarind Glazed Crispy Fried Duck (NT$320) is another great choice here, as is their Tai Bei Minced Pork with Cabbage (NT$280), made with chilled minced pork that's mixed with special sauce and wrapped in fresh cabbage leaves with tomatoes, onions and cucumbers.
The Lan Na ChongDe branch offers a business set lunch for only NT$188. The menu choices include Chicken with Chili and Lemon Sauce, Stir Fried Pork with Chili Sauce, Spicy Chicken with Coconut Sauce, and Red Curry Fish in Coconut Sauce. The set comes with one of the above entrees, as well as an appetizer, soup, dessert and an after-meal beverage. The prices vary at the ShiZheng branch.
