There are hot pot restaurants and Thai restaurants, but it's fairly rare to find a place that combines the two, with some Yunnanese dishes thrown into the mix. Yummy Thailand Flavor comes to Taichung from Changhua and is run by a Chinese family originally from Burma (Myanmar). In addition to a big hot pot selection, the restaurant has a full menu over over 70 traditional Thai dishes, with favorites like the Green Coconut Cream Chicken or Beef (NT$180, NT$270 large) and Fried Chicken with Coconut Cream. Yunnanese dishes include Yunnan Sliced Pork (NT$180, NT$270 large), Chicken with Chinese Wild Pepper Sauce in Yunnan Style, and Braised Bamboo Beef (or chicken). The NT$599 two-person, NT$999 four-person, NT$4,500 10-person and other set meals also provide good dining value. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Ann Lee
A. A big selection of 23 individual hot pots ranges from the NT$138 business lunch special up to the NT$200-300 range. A popular choice is the NT$280 Thai Tom Yum Soup Hotpot, with pork, beef or mutton and a sweet/sour/spicy Thai-style broth. This is served with both a traditional Thai dipping sauce and another combination of lemon-grass-flavored and traditional hotpot sauces.
B. Don't let the restaurant's small first-floor dining area fool you; the spacious second floor is three times as big and decorated with vibrant orange colors and Southeast Asian handicrafts.
