Kanpai Yakiniku Restaurant already has a good reputation via its various Taipei area branches, serving barbecue/grilled foods. The owner decided to open his first Taichung branch, bringing central Taiwan customers Kanpai's pleasant ambiance and friendly, professional service standards. This is represented by the restaurant's unique trademark gesture of having everyone raise their glasses and say "gan bei" (meaning "bottoms up" in Chinese) at 8 p.m., for a shared moment that all patrons enjoy together. All dishes here are served in a la carte style, and menu items change about every six months to keep things fresh for customers. Periodically, exclusive, limited-edition products are also offered. Kanpai's chefs put a lot of effort into selecting quality ingredients for each dish. Together with the nice setting and great service, this establishment upholds the typical Japanesea "kanpai" spirit. --By Eve Chen, translated by Ann Lee
A. Among the most popular menu items is the Specially-Selected Streaky Beef (NT$190), with a balanced ratio of lean and fat meat. If you are not a beef fan, try the Hoar-Frost Pork (NT$140).
B. A trademark gesture at Kanpai is having everyone raise their glasses to say "gan bei" (or "kanpai" in Japanese) to each other, a crowd-pleasing moment together. If you can finish your drink in one go, another will be given to you for free.
