Shanghai Steamed Soup Dumplings is located in the bustling Dong Hai (Tunghai University) shopping district. It's easy to get there if you make a left turn off TaichungGang Road onto DongYuan Lane; from there, it's only a few minutes walk. Owner Chef Chen started learning the art making soup dumplings and steamed buns from a master chef at the age of 17. Close to a decade later, he decided to open his own shop in the Dong Hai area. Besides his own culinary expertise, Chen also hired a few dumpling chefs from the famous Ding Tai Fong dumpling shop to work in his kitchen. Currently, his shop mainly offers steamed soup buns, but also has a variety of other dishes like buns with scallop stuffing, Steamed Shrimp Dumpling and Noodle Soup, dry noodles, and Hot and Sour Soup, all among customers' favorites. For dessert, try the Mashed Taro Cake or Steamed Red Bean Buns. There are also self-serve appetizers and bottled beverages (soda, black tea, juice and beer) available. --By Jasmine Lu, translated by Ann Lee
A. The signature Steamed Soup Buns (NT$70 per steamer) are made with a thin dough on the outside and a juicy stuffing inside. Eat these carefully, as the soup inside the bun is quite hot.
B. Shrimp Dumplings (NT$90)
