"Save our taste buds and bring back local cuisine!" summarizes Local Flavors' founding philosophy. Situated in an open space beside DaLong Road, this place charms its guests with simple-but-straightforward decor. There are seven tables in the outside sitting area and two private rooms inside. Order a few dishes, a few bottles of beer and gather with your friends here for an evening of good dining and conversation. The variety of Taiwanese-style stir-fries (around NT$100) is made with high-end, fresh seafood and other ingredients, making this restaurant exceptional in a time when price often is emphasized over quality. --By Catherine Liu, translated by Naomi Lai

A. The tender, juicy restaurant specialty, Fillet Steak with Red Wine Gravy on Rock (NT$400), features a New Zealand Prime steak cooked on an iron plate with garlic.

B. Garlic Fish (NT$220) is flavored in a traditional manner with soy sauce and garlic sauce and a bite will take many diners right back to their grandparents' time. The Peppered Snails are made with fresh snails, bought daily and roasted with pepper for a spicy and flavorful mouthful.
