The posh European-style "izakaya" (Japanese bar) is growing in popularity in Europe and the U.S. Throwing their ingenious ideas together, four handsome metrosexual men from Hong Kong, Japan, China and Taiwan decided to introduce this trend to Taichung via Sakurazaka Fusion Restaurant. Here you can either eat, chat or relax with your friends in the spacious and bright bar area, or snuggle with your loved one in the soft and comforting sofas. To satisfy your hunger, you can try the several fusion courses, such as the Italian-style yakitori, the Kyushu creative cuisine, or the French stuffed breads. To quench your thirst, try the diverse wine and whiskey selection. The great food and wine are unrivalled when it comes to appeasing your taste buds, and the sophiscated interior decor with a soothing, friendly atmosphere easily makes this izakaya the place to be. --By Niang Chen, translated by Naomi Lai
A. Passionfruit Flavor Sake Cocktail (NT$150), Chicken and Cheese Yakitori (NT$100 for two), Chicken and Almond Yakitori (NT$100 for two), Eel and Eggplant Yakitori (NT$60 for one). The appetizing yakitori choices are grilled with different sauces and nuts and definitely worth a try. Adding fresh fruit to the Japanese sake makes it both sweet and tangy.
B. Pork Belly with Pomelo Sauce (NT$80 for two) is made with tender, juicy pork belly, slightly brushed with a combination of Japanese pomelo sauce and soy sauce and grilled with shallots for a luscious texture and flavor.
