Walk into specialty diner K. Brun and you'll immediately experience the breezy, cheerful atmosphere given off by the decor, consisting of various shades of pastel, soft, apple and grass green. These color arrangements help express this eatery's objective of offering its diners healthy breakfasts. The walls and ceiling are emblazoned with images of the Brun Bear, a funky design that even boys will like. Restaurant owner Ms. Zhuang says that all designs came from her husband, giving the dining area the fresh originality of a playful, overgrown boy. The brunches here include checker toast (grilled sandwiches) meals, wheat sandwich meals and bagel meals (NT$160-180). --By Vincent Huang, translated by Naomi Lai

A. Ms. Zhuang recommends the American Beef Checker Toast (NT$80, add NT$60 for drink and salad or fries). Roast beef slices are wrapped in two pieces of toast with mushrooms, corn and cheese before being grilled on an electric griddle. The result is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

B. French Meal (NT$95) features toast soaked in milk, covered in a specially-made egg sauce, fried and then served with honey. This includes a German sausage, salad and a drink.
