Mr. India 2 Indian Restaurant
54, BoGuan 3rd St
Although the original Mr. India restaurant hasn't been open that long, owners are well on their way to opening at least three or four branches. Mr. India 2 is their first expansion and shares an almost identical menu, with a few unique additions (noted below) and prices that are at least 10% cheaper than Mr. India 1. Popular entrees include items like Lamb Sheekh Kebab (NT$250), Chicken Tikka (NT$200), and Tandoori Chicken (NT$220). Main courses come with three dipping sauces--spicy; green mint and coriander; and a unique coconut, green chili and ginger one. The long menu also includes many kinds of curries, finger foods like Vegetable Samosas (NT$150), eight kinds of Nan bread, Lassi yoghurt drinks and hot/cold masala teas. All food is strictly Halal and no alcohol is served. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Naomi Lai
A. Mr. India 2 is the only Indian restaurant in Taichung, perhaps all of Taiwan, offering traditional Indian "Thali" meals. Popular in northern and southern India, these all-in-one combinations are distinctively served on a platter holding a variety of smaller metal bowls. The NT$220 Dinner Thali (pictured) includes a vegetable dish like Daal Taraka (yellow lentils with cumin and garlic), a non-veggie dish like Chicken Curry, salad, Raita (yoghurt and cucumbers), Kashmiri Kheer milk/rice/nut dessert, Nan bread, rice and soft drink. Various Thali lunches are also offered Monday to Thursday, including the NT$99 Special Thali with a vegetable and non-vegetable dish, Raita, rice, bread and black tea.
B. Another item unique to Mr. India 2 is the Mahi Fish Tikka (NT$240), a northern Indian dish featuring boneless fish, marinated in lemon juice and traditional spices before cooking in a Tandoor oven.
C. The restaurant's small but attractively decorated interior offers a relaxing dining spot directly behind Splendor Hotel, where paid-parking lots are also available.
