Local residents who recall the variety of popular WenXin Road beer houses decades ago will find that Fu Xuan BBQ is a close variation of the same kind of establishment, with a smaller space that combines a beer house, BBQ restaurant and late-night getaway into one. Perhaps you can label it as a multifunctional Taiwanese bar. --By Niang Chen, translated by Naomi Lai

A. Combine a friendly environment with great food and beer and you have the appealing, bustling Fu Xuan BBQ. It's easy to make friends with people at other tables in this tight and cozy space.

B. A thick slice of cod is marinaded with lemon juice before being roasted to make Lemon Fish (NT$200). The light fragrance of the lemon juice mixed with the fatty fish creates a unique BBQ flavor. Tender, juicy chicken legs are also used to create the Chicken on a Stick (NT$50).

Fu Xuan BBQC. High-quality coconut milk imported from Thailand is used to create the Thai-style Spicy Shrimp (NT$280), a dish best eaten with toast to reduce the spiciness. Leeks are stuffed into intestines and then deep fried to create a crunchy outside and soft inside in the Leeks with Intestines (NT$160) dish. Other items include the Chicken Butt (NT$50) and the Beef on a Stick (NT$60).
