Owner Iris Liao opened this attractive little brunch place right across the road from her younger sister Jessie's Corner Backpacker Hostel (whose guests get discounts on food here). The well-traveled Iris says her place reflects her love of sitting for long periods of time reading books, and she hopes her customers will also linger instead of rushing off. Her healthy Western brunch sets include various English and American style breakfast plates like the NT$99 English Meal, plus salads and sandwiches like the Crab Salad Danish Sandwich (NT$99) and Chicken Breast Focaccia Sandwich Meal (NT$129). There are also waffles and a NT$69 Kid's Meal. All meals include a juice and most also have an added drink selection (1 free refill for coffee), side salad and/or other sides. Various NT$40-60 drinks (with half-priced refills) like coffees, teas and juices can be ordered individually, too. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Angel Pu
A. Iris with a Croque Monsieur Sandwich Meal (NT$129). This satisfying sandwich, filled with ham, cheese and mashed potatoes, is toasted with a layer of cheese on top. Iris serves it with a side salad, a strip of bacon, glass of juice and another drink selection, such as coffee.
B. The Hot Salad (NT$159) is a unique, filling, low-calorie creation that is especially popular with female diners and includes chicken, potatoes, broccoli, three types of mushrooms and other vegetables. It also comes with bread, soup of the day and a drink.
C. Located in a quiet street facing a green belt, Iris 113's cozy, cutely-decorated interior seats about a dozen inside and is the perfect place to linger, with relaxing music, forest-green, red and wood-accented decor, and large windows letting in lots of natural light. There are also pleasant tables on a small outside patio area.
