Photosynthesis Coffee offers a variety of very creative, unique meals, made with hearty, wholesome ingredients. The coffees are made with select coffee beans and siphon coffee makers, part of the owner's insistence on highlighting the unique flavors of different beans. Prices run between NT$40 for drinks to NT$119 spaghetti entrees. Adding NT$50 to a meal cost gets you a salad and a NT$40 drink choice off the menu (more expensive drinks can be selected by making up the difference in price). They also sometimes offer brand new afternoon tea sets. --By May Chen, translated by Angel Pu
A. Pasta with Bacon & Egg in Cream Sauce (NT$109) features flavorful spaghetti topped with a fresh half-done egg yolk. Even without much sauce, you can savor the moist texture of the pasta; the owner notes that making "al dente" style spaghetti properly is not that easy and requires much time and practice. Every pasta dish here comes with a soup, and an extra NT$50 upgrades your meal to a set. The special "Orange Sauce" dressing they use in the salad brings out the veggies' original flavors and is a must-try.
B. Cheese & Ham Submarine Sandwich (NT$59) includes lettuce, pickles, fresh tomatoes, onions, cheese and ham, wrapped in crispy bread, plus a yellow specially-made sauce that highlights the cheese. Multiple layers of flavors make this a very delicious snack.
C. Photosynthesis Coffee looks simple on the outside and its indoor space isn't huge, but it's comfy and well-designed.
