Returning to Taiwan from the United States, Waltoro Restaurant owner Mr. Gao decided to offer his customers an American standard of food and service. He takes the nutritional content and freshness of his food seriously, so he cooks with imported seafood and ingredients from quality-certified Taiwanese companies and doesn't use MSG or chicken stock powder (chicken broth powder). The 12 main-course options, which can be paired with rice or noodles, include Curry Chicken Leg, Chinese Char Siu Pork, Beef, Fish Steak, Fried Shrimp, and vegetarian courses. Every set meal is NT$220 and includes side dishes, a beverage (Wolfberry Drink or Healthy Drink) and dessert. The first and second floors can accommodate a total of over a hundred guests, and the rooftop garden, serving flower tea and coffee, is open until 11 p.m. Waltoro uses lemon juice, salt and fructose syrup to cook up its exquisite entrees which, despite lower prices, are as good as those found at higher-priced establishments. Appetizer options include Five Color Dry Fruits (include cashews, walnuts, almonds, cranberries, raisins and macadamia nuts) and Shrimp Crackers with Mexican-Style Lime Salsa Sauce. --By Wang Xiao-ling, translated by Angel Pu
