This Japanese-style bar & grill was opened by a group of friends in the catering profession. Various Taiwanese and Japanese beers are offered in the simple dining area, and for dinner and late-night snacks the chef grills anything from fish to chicken wings. According to manager Cai, the sauce Chuan Yi Xu uses contains no MSG and is made from natural ingredients. The chef has developed over 50 grilled dishes prepared only with salt to preserve original flavors, or with a sauce to enhance taste. Grilled Potato and Beef (NT$80) includes fluffy potato chunks and beef slices fried with butter. A favorite among younger customers, the Grilled Streaky Pork and Cheese (NT$70), is made with a rich cheese and crispy, smoky streaky pork. Chuan Yi Xu Rice with Assorted Grill (NT$150) features rice covered with vegetables and several grilled items such as Grilled Streaky Pork and Cheese, Grilled Duck Breast, Grilled Black Pearl Mushroom and Grilled Asparagus with Meat, plus side dishes like a soft-boiled egg and shredded seaweed. This makes it a very filling meal for those who love rice meals. --By Wang Xiao-ling, translated by Angel Pu
