This restaurant is located on the first two floors of the Tempus Hotel's just-opened Dadun Building, whose eight floors and two basements also have 84 family-style guest rooms. Uniquely, Ali combines traditional southern Taiwanese-style fresh seafood dining with a five-star ambiance and service. Thus, there is no menu; diners pick from live-seafood tanks and ice-filled cases and request their cooking style. Non-seafood items like vegetables are similarly displayed and selected this way. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Angel Pu
A. Tempus Hotel and its Ali Restaurant branch in Kenting employ eight fishing boats to catch a cornucopia of seafood, shipped up daily from southern Taiwan. This includes all manner of deep-sea and reef fish, crabs, lobsters, clams, shrimp, abalone and ferocious-looking moray eels--all sold by weight (NT$40-120 per tael).
B. A good way to enjoy a hearty seafood meal is the Monday-Friday NT$1,500 business lunch, which easily fills four diners. Its five dishes and one soup include pictured items like Stir-Fried Grouper Intestine with Vinegar and Pickled Mustard Greens; Sashimi; Shrimp; and Red Mullidae and Acanthurs Fish Stewed with Black Bean Sauce. It also comes with Sweet Potato Rice, Onion Salad, and fruit.
C. Ali offers a classy 180-seat first and second floor dining area, plus 11 private rooms which hold for groups of four to 20.
