This friendly foreign-run pizzeria sticks to the basics, offering 15 creative varieties of 11-12 inch thin-crust pizzas (NT$220-360), made to perfection in a special oven that bakes them on a stone surface, distributing the heat more evenly. The menu also offers Greek Salad, nachos, soup and a variety of low-priced drinks, from NT$100 beers to NT$50 imported American sodas. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Angel Pu
A. Among Pizza Rock's pizzas, The Parisian (NT$340) is a favorite and comes topped with mozzarella cheese, shrimp, sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms and herb oil. Other stand-outs include Teen Spirit (NT$320), which offers an explosion of salty, sour and spicy flavors from toppings like green and black olives, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic and jalapenos.
B. When Canadian Montreal native Ugo Ortolano decided to go into the pizza business, he went back to the land of his ancestors--Abruzzo, Italy--for more education. He says that top-end ingredients are key, from his Canadian wheat flour and high-quality tomatoes to six kinds of cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, feta, provolone, Monterrey Jack, and Romano).
C. Gold-colored walls, dark wood and other other touches make this a welcoming, comfortable place. The framed photos of rock music legends and variety of classic rock background music (kept to a decent volume) remind diners of this eatery's name and theme.
