Located next to SK Cineplex in Mitsukoshi Department Store, this large, classy restaurant combines Japanese-style table grilling with Western-style ambiance, appetizers and desserts. Diners can enjoy grilling a variety of ingredients (ordered as set meals or a la carte) and pair it with about 40 types of Old and New World wines, plus beers and sakes. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Edward Lin
A sampling from the lunch/dinner menu includes a wonderfully-savory "Egg Cocotte" Baked Farm Eggs in Cocotte Pan (NT$360), made with Morchella mushrooms, tomatoes, garlic, bacon, and white truffle and red-wine sauces; the Spanish-style Seared Squid Stuffed with Seafood (NT$450); and "Bouillabaisse" Southern French Seafood Soup (NT$320).
US Prime cut-to-order Rib Eye (pictured; NT$480 per 100g) and other steaks are among the choices. Top-grade Australian Wagyu beef, together with pork, duck, lamb and chicken, are also available.
Part of the popular Kanpai restaurant group, Wine De Kanpai is the first of kind in Taichung and offers an upscale setting with high ceilings and striking chandeliers made from wine bottles.
