This creative-feeling, cozy place, located meters from MinZu Road, serves everything from brunches (to 2:30 p.m.) and focaccia sandwiches (NT$200) to Douzi-brand coffee and draft and bottled beers. On most weekends, the store's Taiwan Beer bar truck also serves 500cc draft (NT$80) out front. --Douglas Habecker, translated by Angel Pu

A. There six brunch options (NT$70-100), from English, French and German varieties to the pictured Australian, which comes with a savory chicken or beef meat pie. A set-meal option adds coffee, soup and extra salad.

B. The appealingly-cluttered decor includes beer and coffee signage and vintage sound and photography gear. Most seating is bar-style, although individuals can enjoy two comfy leather armchairs and a basement sofa lounge in on the way.

Sakaecho Sense 1919C. Sense 1919's owner also makes and sells eight flavors of BeerStone Gelato, which are great even if you're not a beer drinker. This year, the Banana Beer Gelato was awarded a Top 10 local delicacies ranking in the Taichung Shopping Festival.
