The brainchild of two experienced restaurateurs, Ah Tai and Chris Ecker, Gong High is a laid-back mix of Taiwanese and foreign elements, which is alluded to in the Chinese name ("International Waters"). The food is tasty and delightfully inexpensive, with nothing on the regular dinner menu topping NT$180 and their brunch options similarly reasonable. The welcoming vibe, a dart board and a decent selection of imported beers (NT$120 and up) have already made this a popular after-work dinner-and-a-drink hangout. --By Courtney Donovan Smith, translated by Angela Cheng

A. Gong High's interior is simple and tasteful. Out front are herb plants and a comfortable outdoor deck next to an open air kitchen.

B. The addictive and tender-but-crispy Salty Pork with Garlic Vinegar Sauce (NT$120) is an excellent pairing with beer.

C. The popular Thai Seafood Salad (small NT$80/large NT$160) is mixed with a generous helping of fresh, seasonal seafood and topped with a zesty and spicy Thai-style sauce.
