This American-style, all-day breakfast restaurant is already a big hit with five hearty signature breakfast platters (NT$250-289), from The Memphis and Veggie Harvest to spicier The Cajun, plus various breakfast combos, eight omelettes, pancakes, french toast, waffles, oatmeal, salads, kids' meals, "bottomless" coffee, draft beers, and five Bloody Mary cocktails. A full range of live sports is also shown here. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Angela Cheng
A. Besides breakfast-style food, there are a dozen sandwiches (also available as wraps), plus eight burgers like the pictured, most popular Huamei Double (NT$329) with two patties, double cheese and double bacon.
B. One of seven Eggs Benedict options, The Uptowner Benny (NT$250) features a homemade Creole Hollandaise sauce--one of three available--and a side of crispy, homemade hash browns.
C. The original Uptowner was opened in the 1970s by chef Kyle McCarty's parents in St. Paul, Minnesota. He has partnered with former Hotel ONE Executive Sous Chef Nicholas Alvarez (left) and old friend Ben Tacheny (right) to open the Taichung version.
