Situated behind Taichung City Hall, this spacious dining spot is part of the Karuisawa restaurant chain and offers lots of natural light, excellent scenery and extra-high ceilings. It's a great place to bring children, who can play in the sandbox outside, and one can also check out the pond, buy cultural merchandise, fruit and vegetables. Menu items include pasta entrees (NT$180-300), risotto, salads, sandwiches, waffles, fresh juices, coffee and herbal tea. This combination of attractions helps customers feel rejuvenated when they leave. --By Uvia Chang, translated by S. Ying

A. Good menu selections here include Onion Rings (NT$60) and a Pork Burger (NT$188)--prepared with traditional Taiwanese-style roasted pork and spinach instead of lettuce--plus a Milk Tea (NT$70).

B. The Western-style decor shows off modern, creative elements.

C. In addition to dining options, good-quality fruit and vegetables are sold by the entrance.
