This cafe fills a niche in an area of Taichung with few options for the coffee and brunch crowd. Owner Mr Tang previously operated a store with the same name near Chung Hsing University and his experience certainly shines through. The relaxed dining area, with an almost DIY feeling decor, exudes a calm air enhanced by the presence of a docile cat and dog. --By Paul Adams, translated by S. Ying

A. The owner prepares a Costa Rican syphon coffee, paying great attention to the whole process. The beans are roasted on-site and are available for purchase separately for NT$200 to NT$900 per bag.

B. The Sauteed Salmon with Lemon Butter ($180) is part of a set that includes tofu, vegetables and soup.

C. From the brunch menu, Beef and Balsamic Vinegar (NT$140) comes with fresh, homemade bread. The Costa Rica SHB syphon coffee (NT$180) is also an extremely smooth pick-me-up.
