Now arriving in Taichung, this famous restaurant has appeared in the hidden alleys with a classic Japanese architecture and elaborate garden offering a zen-like dining atmosphere. The tatami tables and seating means that all diners remove their shoes when eating here, as they are immersed in a warm ambiance. Although they look simple, the bowls and plates are antiques collected from Japan and other parts of the world. Carved with lotus, flowers of basil and Japanese Horseradish, these bowls feature an ancient style. "Secret" set menu meals start from NT$1,280. --By Niang Chen, translated by Carrie Chang Chien
A. The 11-dish secret menu includes seasonal fish and vegetables plus winter ingredients like alfonsino, horseshoe crabs and Japanese amberjack, served with lotus roots, ginko and chestnuts, all cooked with care.
B. The spacious, comfortable dining area is suitable for whole family dining experience.
C. Main dishes can be upgraded for NT$580; for example replacing horseshoe crabs with Boston lobster, barbecued with sea urchin sauce. The lobster heads are made into miso soup to complete the experience.
