4 great romantic places in Taichung to pop "The Big Question"--Top of ONE, The Peoples' Cafe, BELLO Italian Restaurant, La Fete

Translated by Anna Yang

Top of ONE

(04) 2303-1234
532, YingCai Rd, 46F, Xitun Dist (Hotel ONE)
Hours: 11:30 am-10:30 pm

Sitting on the 46th floor of Hotel ONE, Top of ONE has been the scene of over a thousand successful wedding proposals since its opening. Besides the advantage of a superb view, the dining atmosphere here is also unforgettable. If you are thinking about proposing to your "significant other", you can discuss further details with the staff, which is even able to arrange fireworks for you while you ask the Big Question. Walking into the restaurant, you will see a giant transparent hot box, displaying American Prime steaks (with and without bones). Try the 28-Day USDA Prime Dry-Aged Rib Eye (boneless, NT$230 per oz.), served with grilled potatoes, mushrooms, seasonal vegetables and port wine sauce, while enjoying your time on top of Taichung.

The Peoples' Cafe

(04) 2310-5577
1, DaRen St, West Dist
Hours: 11:30 am-2:30 pm, 5:30-10 pm

The unique exterior of this restaurant mimics a European-style castle, while the interior features a black, white and red decor. For over 20 years, this establishment has offered upscale western cuisine and ambiance for surprisingly reasonable prices. Perhaps this has also helped make it famed for wedding proposals, which the owner is happy to coordinate planning for. Nightly there is also live piano music, which adds to the feeling that this is your private castle party and helps create the perfect environment for asking the "Big Question".

The signature dish here is Roasted Pig Knuckle with Mustard (set meal NT$799, with table wine, soup, appetizer, salad, dessert and drinks). The juicy, crispy roasted pig knuckles are made even more memorable with slightly spicy sauerkraut and juicy vegetables.
