Pingjiacha Tea Restaurant

(04) 2246-6568
220, ReHe Rd, Sec 2, Beitun Dist
Hours: 11 am-2 pm, 5-9 pm (closed Tue)

Located next to Taichung Folklore Park, this restaurant is run by an efficient cookery team of three epicures and chefs whose main offerings are Hainanese Chicken Rice, Gold Medal Pork Congee, and Shrimp Wonton Noodles (NT$180-220). The highly recommended, nostalgically-flavored casserole porridge dishes are cooked for a long period and provide smooth, creamy flavors. A variety of rice rolls contains shrimp, squid paste and black fungus, encased in a Vietnamese-style rice wrap and deep fried for crispy layers of savoriness. Truffle and Mushroom Rice Roll is flavorful and aromatic, while Scallion Fish Roll and Salted Egg Sesame Balls are juicy and delicious. Most dim sum items (NT$65-120) and side dishes are prepared by the top chef, Pan Yu-hua, and other savory treats include Sea Coconut and Conch Soup, Apple and White Fungus served with Pork Ribs Soup, and Pork Claypot Rice, with prices ranging from NT$120-180. Tasty beverage recommendations include Cream Soda and Blackberry Soda (NT$75-80). --By Niang Chen, translated by Anna Yang
