Rice Bar

301, Taiwan Blvd, Sec 3, 9F, Xitun Dist; (04) 2259-7718
Hours: weekdays 11 am-10 pm; holidays 10:30 am-10 pm

Located on Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store's ninth floor, Rice Bar is affiliated with TTFB Restaurant Group and claims to be Taichung's first eatery to offer strongly-flavored delicacies infused with Chinese, Southeast Asian and Taiwanese cuisine styles. Three rice flavors (Chewy Koshihikari Rice, Three-Colored Sweet Potato Rice, Healthy Red Quinoa Rice) are available and an extra NT$45 allows you to enjoy an all-you-can-eat savoring of all rice options. Quality menu options (NT$100-400) include appetizers, stir-fried items, soups, tofu, vegetables, chicken, seafood, pork, beef, drinks and desserts. A very appetizing example is the fragrant, mildly-spicy Mapo Tofu, prepared with Sichuan chilies and soft tofu. Sugarcane Shrimp, featuring shrimp paste on a sugarcane stick, is tender, chewy and very juicy. Served with broiled eggs, Ahpo Braised Pork has non-greasy meat and pairs well with rice. The eye-catching wall decorations highlight 20 top Taiwanese rices in red, black, white and yellow colors. --By Uvia Chang, translated by Anna Yang
