Route 66 American Diner

0965-030-966
23, Lane 118, YongFu Rd, XiTun Dist
Hours: 3-10 pm (closed Mon)

Peggy Chang, a 30-year veteran of the restaurant business (including Peggy's Circle Bar) with a loyal following of burger lovers, and her uncle Ben Kerling have teamed up to create a classic American diner, appropriately named after the historic Route 66. Both in decor and the menu, this place serves up classic, hearty American favorites. Conveniently, much of the menu is "build your own dish", allowing diners to mix-and-match their favourite breads, meats and toppings to create burgers and sandwiches for an individualized meal. Prices are very reasonable and flexible, with a typical burger coming in well under NT$200. Additionally there are some set dishes, salads and appetizers. Pictured is the Chicken Breakfast Burrito (NT$200 for meat varieties), a tasty and very filling comfort food home run. Route 66 also frequently has special, limited-time dishes to keep things interesting. A little hard to find, it is in the pedestrian lane between the Amart and the KFC. --By Courtney Donovan Smith, translated by Anna Yang
