Kobitos Shabu-Shabu

(04) 2358-7158
12, YuCheng Rd, Xitun Dist
Hours: 11 am-10 pm

The main theme at the first Taichung branch of this Japanese chain restaurant is popular and cute, yet slightly pathetic-looking, Japanese comic book character Kobitos, whose image can be seen everywhere, from wall decorations to tableware. The interior includes three tree hollow-like private dining spaces (minimum order of NT$3,000 required), a sticker photo booth, claw game machine and other Kobitos-related products. Featured set-meal main entrees include American beef (NT$666) and shrimp (NT$699) and come with soup (black bean, seaweed, or soy flavors), side dishes, dessert, black tea, and plum vinegar drink. Most unique is the limited-quantity Kobitos Hiding Peach Bottom Soup, resembling a peach that's taking a bath in the soup. The popular Peach Vinegar Drink, topped with colorful cotton candy, is also quite eye-catching. Another favorite, Hiding Peach Bottom Egg Pancake (3 for NT$100), is available for take-out. --Words and translated by Amber Hsu
