Donio Spanish Grill Steak

(04) 2378-5645
114, WuQuan W 4th St, West Dist
Hours: 11:30 am-3 pm, 5:30-9:30 pm (closed Mon)

Spanish Basque regional cuisine is the focus of this attractive Art Museum Parkway restaurant, located at the former site of Fleur De Sel (reopening soon on ShiZheng Rd.). Chef/owner Frederic Hung has years of experience as a head chef at Papa Mio Italian and Tapas-1 Spanish restaurants and studied Basque cooking in northern Spain. The subdued lighting, black mirrored walls, wooden tables and Spanish guitar music create a suitable ambiance for enjoying various mostly-grilled items prepared with an imported Spanish oven and charcoal. Grilled beef, chicken, pork and seafood entrees include the big succulent Grilled Bone-in Rib Eye Steak Basque Style (NT$1,580 2-3 people, NT$2,480 3-4 people), perfectly pink inside and served on an imported Basque table grill. Various tapas offerings include the NT$280 Homemade Chorizo with 'Fire in Hell' (Chorizo al Infierno)--also grilled tableside--and Iberico Ham, with sides including all sorts of grilled asparagus, zucchini, water bamboo and other veggies. Imported beers, wines and spirits are also served. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Anna Yang
