One can usually discern the attention that a restaurant gives to its ingredients and quality by ordering a bowl of soup. The Mediterranean Slow Braised Mixed Seafood with Creamy Shrimp Sauce (NT$420) is a soup here offering a hearty variety of seafood, to the point it can also be enjoyed as a main course. Pairing well with wine is the mildly spicy Mixed Beef Offal Stew with Tomato Sauce (NT$250) with chewy beef stomach, sirloin and tendon especially appetizing when dipped into handmade chili sauce on the side. In Italian, "riso" means "rice" and the owner gives extra attention to this ingredient. Risotto rice options include imported Italian Arborio rice as well as Hualien red rice and black rice, which are among the unique-flavored Taiwanese varieties and flavors valued by the owner. Besides fine dining, Riso Riso has a carefully selected wine list, rounding out this restaurant as a top local destination for quality when it comes to ambiance and dining. --By Helen Young, translated by Anna Yang
