When it comes to Taichung nightlife, there are few places like 18TC, which offer a proper VIP experience without "breaking the bank". I've been to "18" many times and have always had a fantastic time. The music always energizes and the crowd is always bumping. The drinks always satisfy and there's never a shortage of beautiful people having a good time around you.

However, if you're looking for something a little more, reserve a table and, trust me, you won't be disappointed. When I arrived at the club, I walked past the line and was let in right away. The staff escorted me into the building and brought me to my second-floor table with ample, comfortable seating.

Though the minimum charge for a table is NT$5,000 (for up to 10 people), the staff allowed me to pick any items from their surprisingly extensive menu up to that total amount without extra charge. My group opted for a bottle of whiskey and a few appetizers. Bottle service ranges from NT$2,800 for a bottle of Jim Beam whiskey to NT$15,000 for Dom Perignon champagne.

The food menu is designed around dishes that can be sampled and shared. The NT$380 cheese platter and NT$420 party platters are great reasonably-priced choices but, if you want to go high-end, then the Lobster Sandwich (NT$680) and, notably, the Oyster Shots (NT$380) are delicious and memorable. After all, one should never drink on an empty stomach!

After getting settled and served, the night wouldn't be complete without dancing for at least a few songs. 18TC has you covered with some of the best DJs in the city. Downstairs, DJs Mykal and Alex36 had the crowds jumping at the main stage with remixed classic rock and pop, while, upstairs, DJs Syko, T-Narg, Smokey Bear and Redo played more varied sets with rock, hip-hop and techno roots, remixed and updated with vivacious beats.

Whatever your budget and musical tastes, if you like to have a good time, this club has everything you want. So head over, dance the night away, sip on a drink and savor a night to remember.

Compass Magazine is required by law to remind you not to drink and drive.
