Accessories are back!

By Karishma Krishna

This year, accessories have returned to the limelight in all their glory. This winter¡¦s fashion girl is a chameleon: one day, dressed in dark, gothic-inspired leather and lace; on another, a global princess covered in delicate beads, embroideries and furs. Whatever your mood, this season has accessories to match.

Foot Patrol

Towering stilettos are definitely the name of the game for this season. Designers have delved deep into the past for inspiration. We see the glamorous ¡¥40s and ¡¥50s giving detail to ties, and the European Renaissance showing up in the lace-up, pointed shoes and boots. Retro-inspired Mary Jane's, Robin Hood and Lord of the Rings-inspired elfish suede boots all add to this season¡¦s choice of footwear.

Beltway

Get wrapped up in ethnic embroideries, soft scarf-like wraps, sparkles, furs, mirrors and leathers. Belts are the perfect update to any wardrobe. It matters little if they are worn around the waist or sensuously low on the hip. Belts are perfect for hiding that annoying tummy bulge; worn on the hip, they are especially good at slimming, as they elongate your silhouette.

Baubles (Earrings and necklaces)

¡§Whimsical,¡¨ ¡§Romantic Decadence¡¨ and ¡§Chunky Ethnic¡¨ are the key words for this season's jewelry. We also have alluring gothic influences with big crosses and black strings of beads.

Bags

Bags are to be carried at arm's length rather than slung over your shoulders. We see the glamour of Jackie-O, Doris Day and Marilyn Monroe come to life in dainty clutches and hand-held bags.

As you can see, accessories are back with a vengeance. It's fun. It's quirky. It requires a trip to the night market, girls.
