While the spacious, well-appointed PK Billiards Plaza is one of the city's finest places to play billiards or snooker, it is more than just a pool hall. In his younger days, owner Lin Ming-tang was a national player for Taiwan and traveled overseas representing his country. Today, his establishment is also the home for the Taichung Billiards Committee, which cooperates with the government to organize activities, including regular tournaments open to all (no pre-registration necessary). In-house coaches are available to help customers with their game. Other features include a couple free-use foozball tables, new pool cues for sale, and a small food/drinks menu with teas, coffees, rice dishes and boiled dumplings. Some staff members also speak English. PK is easy to find, on the corner of TaichungGang and WuQuan roads, with free basement and fifth-floor parking lots. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Ann Lee
