8th Taiwan International Documentary Festival

Words by Frogy Chang
Translated by Angel Pu

From October 19 to 28, the 8th Taiwan International Documentary Festival, featuring 160 documentaries from over 40 countries, will take place at Taichung's National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Dadun Cultural Center and Wonderful Cinema.

The main competition categories for this year's festival include Taiwan Focus, International Feature Length Competition, International Short Film Competition, and Asia Vision (please visit the official website for details). Invited directors of selected competition films will all hold workshops during the festival, and audience members are welcomed to ask them question about their projects. See the official festival brochure for more information about these workshops.

Besides the competitions, other festival film categories include Experimental Categories in Taiwan, Green Wave, and Director in Focus: Sergei Loznitsa. In addition, the opening-day film, "Doc Taichung IV: Taichung's Untold Stories", features documentaries revealing Taichung's many faces from a different angle.

Each evening during the festival there will be open-air movies on the museum's outdoor plaza. Before finishing your day, why not stop by and enjoy these fillms with your family? For more information and tickets, please visit www.tidf.org.tw or consult the festival brochure.
