After a year abroad studying Nordic food and culture, Dessert Hyva owner Carrie returned to Taichung to popularize her unique baking skills via Facebook. Now she is bringing what she learned into full play, as customers can now buy six-inch cakes directly from her. On a normal day, the shop has eight dessert options, including cakes and daily limited-quantity pastries. The number-one item is the creamy, savory Passion Fruit Berry Tart (NT$130), made with imported French passion fruit paste and berry jelly. The Lemon Tart (NT$120) is topped with a white chocolate logo of Taiwan and is not overly sweet, with a zesty citrus flavor perfect for the summer. The 70% Chocolate Tart (NT$130) offers a mouthful of rich chocolate alongside a layer of raspberry fruit paste, well-balanced flavors well worth a try.
