Finding Music all Around You

The movie "August Rush" has shown me that music can be found everywhere in the world--not just where it's playing. From the traffic lights flashing as you cross the street and non-stop cars moving and honking, to construction sites and smashing glasses, all of the sounds throughout the day weave a symphony of sounds that resonate around the city. We learn that music is where you make it and where you can find it.

"August Rush" is also the name of the lead character, who the film follows. Originally named Evan Tayor, August is a bit of a musical prodigy. After escaping from an orphanage and surviving on his own for 11 years, Evan meets Maxwell "Wizard" Wallace (played by Robin Williams), who encourages him to change his name to August Rush and helps inspire his musical ability.

The moral of the story is that, although he grows up as an orphan, this musical prodigy still has the will to fight. He is often bullied by his peers, but still manages to keep his spirits up. Music becomes one of the only meaningful things in life for August and his lifelong career. He finally wishes to find and reconnect with his own parents through his music.

Besides teaching audiences that music is everywhere you look for it, "August Rush" portrays a search for true happiness. It is certainly easy to feel happy when you immerse yourself in this film and open your ears and heart to the music that can be found all around you.
