Ask Love

Label: HCM Music
Title: Ask Love
Artist: Huang Xi-Ting

By Nelson Huang, translated by Cara Steenstra

Listeners get an introduction to some Taiwanese "spiritual music" with this album, titled "Ask Love", by Taiwanese singer Huang Xi-Ting. It is an interesting amalgamation of Buddhist chanting and pop music. The first time I heard this album, it reminded me of New Age music, like Loreena McKennitt's "The Mystic's Dream", as it also combined singing and musical instruments played by lamas. At first, this album stirs up all your melancholic feelings, and then sweeps your spirit clean like a wave of pure water. After listening to "Ask Love", a sense of serenity arises in your heart, your worries disappear and you feel free from the burdens and stresses of life.
