Whenever Valentine's Day rolls around, the colder weather makes it a perfect time to head for the hot springs. Soaking with your loved one is the ideal lovers' day activity, as you escape the daily pressures of work and family and return to the days when you first fell in love with each other. In recent years, the Wulai hot springs has become an increasingly popular destination. These translucent springs are colorless, due to sodium bicarbonate content, and are also reputed to make your skin silky smooth. For this year's Valentine's Day, Pause Landis Resort in Wulai is offering a two-day, one-night special package (NT$9,999 for two, no service change, check-in Feb. 13 or 14) that provides perfect hot springs relaxation for you and your loved one. This generous deal includes a one-night stay in a room valued at NT$7,900, a Cherry Blossom Dinner for two (original price NT$1,100+10% service charge per person), breakfast, and an afternoon tea set and late-night snack for two. From the time you check in until check-out, all your needs are taken care of, leaving you free to focus on romance.

Consider checking in after 3 p.m. and sitting down for a Cherry Blossom Afternoon Tea Set. Upon entering your room, there will be two pink cocktails (valued at NT$400) for you and your loved one to toast each other with. You can then prepare for a hot springs soak. Be sure to apply a facial mask and stay hydrated while soaking. From 6 to 9 p.m., enjoy a romantic candlelight dinner and listen to live music by a violinist. Before bedtime you can soak in the hot spring one more time. If you get hungry in the middle of the night late night snacks will be ready for you! The last thing you'll do is to fall asleep in the arms of your loved one and have sweet dreams together.
The next day after you finish breakfast you two can wander around the area hand in hand for fresh air. You can soak in the hot spring again after a quick shower. Before check-out you'd better pack up your special gifts, the handmade wishing dolls from Tai-Ya tribe (valued at NT1,200) and PRADA perfume set for man & women (valued at NT888), into your suitcase.

There are 35 guest rooms and 27 hot springs houses at Pause Landis Resort. It is considered one of the largest hot springs resorts in Wulai. If you can't find the time to stay overnight you can always go straight there to line up for the hot spring houses. Due to the popularity of the hot springs houses, they are available on a first-come first-served basis. Each hot springs house is about 288 square feet large. The indoors one is NT$1,800 for 90 minutes and the semi-outdoors one is NT$3,500 for 90 minutes. Wintertime is the peak season for hot springs and, therefore you should be prepared to wait patiently.

Hotel Eight Zone

Hotel Eight Zone

Igniting the flames of love at a city resort

Hotel Eight Zone
(02) 2358-3500
8, JinShan S Rd, Sec 1, Taipei City
www.hotel8zone.com

Many young, urban couples prefer to spend Valentine's Day right in the city. Hotel Eight Zone, which opened last August, is now the most requested hotel for Hong Kong and Japanese tourists, thanks to its central location, within a 10-minute cab ride of Taipei's hip eastern district or Ximending. An MRT station is also a couple traffic lights away. This designer hotel combines elements of modern design, a business suite and a bed and breakfast. While most boutique hotels feature decor by internationally-renowned designers, Hotel Eight Zone's designs are exclusively created by in-house staff, and aim to stimulate all your senses--sight, smell, sound, taste and touch. Each of the 50 guest rooms is equipped with a 42-inch LCD flat-screen TV, a giant, 210-by-210-centimeter bed, sauna and jacuzzi. Such amenities mean that occupancy here has skyrocketed since the hotel's opening.

The hotel's Valentine's Day special package (NT$4,299+10% service charge, check-in Feb. 13 and 14) includes a one-night stay in a Deluxe King room (valued at NT$7,000), a LUSH bubble bath set, two cocktails at 8Fun Lounge, and a whirlpool big enough for two people. This year, Valentine's Day falls on a weekend. After checking in, you and your lover can tour Huashan Culture Park across the street and visit the latest art exhibitions for some culture. By late afternoon, you can experience, perhaps for the first time, the joys of soaking in a whirlpool tub with bubbles! You might have a hard time getting up for dinner later.

Before heading out again, take a nap on the giant bed, big enough to accomodate four people and very comfortable. For refreshments, coffee, tea and juice are served 24 hours a day in the lobby. For dinner, take a walk to YongKang Street, where you'll find Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Italian cuisine and more. After your meal, sit by the playground in YongKang Park and enjoy some peace and quiet, or check out all the shops around the area. As you enjoy this exploration together, you can venture further on foot to Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall--a perfect evening stroll for love birds. In contrast to the daytime noise and bustle, evenings here are tranquil and surprisingly romantic.

When the night falls, things are just getting started at the hotel's 8Fun Lounge. Here you can relax on the comfy lounge sofas or at the outdoor 8Fun Sky Bar, while listening to the hotel's own specially-created live lounge music. If you fancy a smoke, 8Fun Cigar Bar has the finest Cuban cigars to go with your choice of drink, whether it's champagne, red wine or white wine. This luxurious space is so chic that it almost feels like New York City!

As you wrap up the evening, soak in the hot tub/jacuzzi with your lover, while taking in a night view of Taipei city. When it's time to hit the sack, the two of you can cocoon yourselves in the silkiest sheets and fall asleep hand-in-hand, enjoying the simple happiness of being together.

Hotel Eight Zone isn't a large establishment. If you are unable to book a room for Valentine's Day, you're more than welcome to book a room and enjoy this luxurious Taipei city retreat at another time of your choosing.

Wego Funtel

Finding excitement in an adult fantasy world

Wego Funtel
(02) 8502-7000
11, Jing Ye San Rd (next to Miramar mall Ferris wheel)
www.we-go.com.tw

After having children, many married couples feel that their lives revolve around their offspring, as feelings of romance and passion fade away. A few years ago, when Wego Motel first opened, it was an instant overnight sensation. Many married women, especially mothers, were hooked on it and constantly asked their husbands to take them there for a few hours of excitement. As a result, the motel soon became the "in" place to go, as couples from Taipei, Taoyuan and Hsinchu rediscovered the joys of some "tender loving care" between the sheets.

The brand-new Wego Funtel is next to the Ferris wheel at Miramar mall. For this expansion, 20 renowned interior designers were invited to participate in the construction of a modern-day amorous fantasy land. Three types of rooms are available--the Presidential Suite, Modern Suite and Chic Suite--each with a specific theme, meaning that you can try out different themes and forms of fun each time you visit. Each room has a 42-inch plasma screen TV and 5.1 surround-sound speaker system, so you and your special someone can enjoy movies, sing karaoke and dance to the music in this secret getaway.

Each room has unique surprises. For cuteness, there's the "flying butterflies" themed room, a dreamy setting with butterfly-covered walls, a swing by the entrance and everything in pinks and purples. On the other hand, Fantasy Land comes with a merry-go-round that you might see in an X-rated film, something for the two of you two try.

Married couples who spend the entire year caring for their children should take a Valentine's Day breather, hire a babysitter or leave the kids with the in-laws, and head for Wego Funtel. Even a three-hour interlude here will help you reignite your passions, as you leave your worries and stresses behind and re-experience the wonderful joys you felt when the two of you first said "I do".

Selling more than 800,000 copies in Japan, "Slow Sex" has been voted as the most preferred book to give to boyfriends. Sex therapist Adam Tokunaga compiled his 14-year study on the subject of sex and turned it into a book. Now "Slow Sex" is available in Chinese! According to a recent survey, 70% of modern women are unsatisfied with their sex lives. One question most modern men have not figured out is, What kind of sex life do women want? Sex is something that we are often embarrassed to discuss in public and school didn't teach us all there is to know about it. "Slow Sex" has become an unofficial textbook for sexual techniques, as the author breaks down all the misconceptions we have about sex and shows us they keys to amazing experiences. He explains in detail how men and women are different in this regard, while elaborating on his theories, sharing techniques and providing ways to practice. As one satisfied reader testifies, "If you practice what Tokunaga preaches in the book, you'll experience mind-blowing sex that you'd never dreamed of!"

This Valentine's Day, give "Slow Sex" to your husband or boyfriend. You and your lover can discover the amazing wonders of each other's bodies and explore deeper levels of human sexuality!
