Would you like to taste some authentic Australian specialties cooked by a young, hip chef? Mary's Bistro Cafe is an Australian-themed restaurant in Taipei. Keen on cooking since he was a little boy, the chef, Jack, lived in Australia for 17 years and learned his Australian culinary skills from professional chefs. In a dramatic change from his training in industrial design, Jack persistently followed his passion for cooking; today he is very proud that he can share his skill with people back home in Taiwan.

Due to the diversity of ethnic groups in the island-continent today, Australian cuisine has become a fusion of all kinds of cultures and styles of food. Mary's Bistro seeks to give Taiwanese people an "updated" version of Australian delicacies. One such dish, the Veal Ribs (NT$520), starts with Australian meat that is grilled on the outside and then oven-baked until it's fully cooked and served with rich red wine sauce--this cooking method ensures that the meat will remain sweet and juicy.

Another great dish here is Mary's Fish and Chips (NT$650). The fish, which is also imported, is rolled with beer-battered flour and deep fried. This boneless dish, about 20 centimeters long, comes with homemade, slightly sour tartar sauce. Though it seems big, it will be gone before you know it. You can get a side order of their generously portioned, crispy Seasoned Chips (french fries) for NT$120,but don't forget to ask for the Australian-only specialty sauce, Aioli, which will make the chips even more invigorating.

A.Even the baby tomatoes that garnish the Veal Ribs have an unforgettable taste.

B.The Italian Chicken Mushroom Pizza (NT$570/12") is a thin-crust pizza that's full of chicken and salty black olives.

C. The Chicken Caesar Salad (NT$320) tops fresh greens with lightly grilled chicken slices and is also generously portioned.

D. Mary's Fish and Chips are beer battered, making them even more tempting.

E. Mary's coffee selection comes from Australia's own top-notch DiBella coffee beans, which are exclusive to this bistro.

F. The red decor maintains a passionate and easy-going atmosphere.
