Kubilai Khan's owner, Yang, has been running this restaurant, which sells mostly lamb dishes, for over a decade. His new branch, located on FuXing Road, is decorated with large red lanterns and a Mahavairocana mural. The lamb dishes here come with seven sauce options, like sesame, fermented bean curd, chili oil, and fragrant shrimp oil sauce. These sauces, known traditionally as the "Seven Old Condiments" (老七樣), are a must for enjoying boiled mutton slices. Handmade Soybean Skin (手工豆皮NT$60), Cod Soup Dumplings (鱈魚湯包) and the creamy Cheese Balls (NT$100) are just a few of the many popular dishes here. --By Joan Chang, translated by Ann Lee

A. Taiwan's own basketball-playing celebrity Zheng Zhi-long, Yang Shao-wen, and Mr. Yang are the "Big Three" of Khubilai Khan.

B. Left: The Mutton Shoulder Chops (小羊肩肉NT$350) include the most tender part of the meat. Or, try the oven-roasted sesame bread, stuffed with teppanyaki beef or lamb (NT$40)--make sure to eat it while it's hot.
Right: Bronze, custom-made pots from China add an exotic feel to your dining experience here. You can also order a double-layer pot, if not everyone at the table can agree on what they want to eat.
