Over the last six months, Palace Tao has opened two branches, the first in BanQiao and the second in the heart of east Taipei. From the outside, this place looks like a chic lounge bar, and inside you'll find yourself in a stylish modern Western restaurant. The decor includes surrounding mirrors that give a feeling of spaciousness. A separate room holding up to 16 may also be reserved for private parties. If you prefer outdoor seating, you can sit on the patio--a relaxing spot to hang out with friends over a coffee on a sunny day. Menu entrees are mostly meat-based, including pork knuckles, pork chops, chicken, lamb chops and steak, with prices ranging from NT$240 to NT$400. When you order an entree, you can add any side orders--including bread, soup, salad, drinks and dessert--for half the regular price. --Written and translated by Diva Yang, photos by Andy Lin
A. Lamb Chops With Rosemary Sauce (NT$300) comes in a big portion and can be requested well-done or medium rare. For an additional NT$100, you can upgrade this to a full set with all of the side dishes, or you can add bread, soup and a drink for NT$60 extra.
B. Mondays through Fridays, the afternoon tea time runs from 2:30 to 5 p.m. You can pair any drink with a dessert (NT$50 or less value) for only NT$69. For a little extra cost, the "Chocolate Cake" (NT$60) is another highly recommended choice, and is actually a warm chocolate brownie served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream--the best dessert in town for its price.
