Conveniently located in the heart of Taipei's East district is a very different American restaurant. Instead of opening yet another hamburger joint, Hook's four owners decided to specialize in hot dogs. There are 12 different varieties of hot dogs to choose from, such as the BBQ Chicken Dog with Onions (NT$180), Double Cheese Hot Dog with Cheese and Onions (NT$150) and Mexican Salsa Dog with Salsa, Basil and Jalapeno (NT$130). For just an additional NT$80 you can also get a generous serving of fries, vegetable dip and a refillable soft drink. Besides the specialty hot dogs, you can savour an array of other American food, too. The American Breakfast is served with a choice of either sunny side up or scrambled eggs, one side dish, salad, ham and bacon, ciabatta, fresh orange juice, and coffee or tea, for just NT$280. Sizzling Beef Strip Fajitas (NT$320) are served on a sizzling hotplate. You might want to start the meal with a plate of the Sizzling Chilli Fries (NT$180) or a Chef's Caesar Salad (NT$180). Snuggle up in Hook's cozy basement, featuring a wooden interior and flooring with two big-screen plasma TVs typically tuned in to game-of-the-moment. An affordable indulgence for all hot dog lovers, with prices ranging from NT$100 to NT$320, Hook also features a full bar. Happy hours (2-7 p.m.) offer buy-1-get-1-free deals on all beers and cocktails, and there's a 30% discount on all take-away orders and deliveries (above NT$200). --Translated by Ann Lee
