The youthful, creative owner of ID Kitchen is Mr. Lee Cheng-yu, born in 1984 and also the owner of Tainan's famous Du Xiao Yue Dan Zai Noodles Restaurant. This latest venture is yet another fulfillment of his dream of being a restaurant owner. --By Josie Wu, translated by Ann Lee
A. Pot-boiled Noodles (NT$69) is a signature dish at ID Kitchen and, on weekends, the restaurant can sell up to 150 bowls. The soup for these noodles is prepared with fruit and vegetables, as well as fish soup stock for a very sweet flavor. A bowl of noodles also come with an egg, clams, mushrooms, meat slices and other vegetables, and is a wholesome choice for a very affordable price.
B. Gu Du Grilled Pork & Rice (NT$50-60) is based on a specialty dish from Tainan's renowned Yong Le Grilled Food Restaurant and can be considered a larger version of the original. To prepare it, a lower pork thigh is marinated with black bean soy sauce and black pepper. Since this dish is made to order, it is sizzling-fresh and aromatic, and served with a pickled white radish side dish (with plum sauce).
C. Owner Lee has a great passion for artistic design and is not limited by tradition, an attitude which extends to his cooking. With even supposedly traditional delicacies, he adds other creative ingredients to shake things up a little, resulting in plenty of tastye surprises for his guests. Popular dishes that follow this formula include Black Pepper Tuna, Chun Chuan Mushrooms, Yang Chang Oily Chicken, and the dessert Sweet Potato & Sticky Rice Soup.
