Because of an eggplant dish that impressed the head of N.Y. Bagels, Trattoria Reggiano, the Italian restaurant from Las Vegas, came all the way to Taiwan to open a new branch. The refreshing, bright atmosphere, light yellow hue, and reasonably-priced delicacies are all the reasons why this restaurant has good reputation, just like its original store in Las Vegas.
To add newness to traditional Italian cuisine, Trattoria Reggiano sometimes puts molecular gastronomy dishes in the menu, and in order to cater to the preferences of Taiwanese, the restaurant puts extra effort on plate decoration to make the delicious entrees look even more appetizing. Trattoria Reggiano also takes the freshness of the ingredients seriously, so most of them are seasonal. For example, the chef adds golden needle flowers, baby Chayote vine, fresh, local seafood and all kinds of Taiwanese fruits.
A. Eggplant Rollatini, one of the most popular dishes, contains eggplants, Mozzarella cheese, and Ricotta cheese, and it goes best with the restaurant’s tomato sauce made with onions, celery, carrots, white wine, a great amount of fresh tomatoes including unique Roman tomatoes.
B. Risotto with Crispy Pork Belly and Soft Egg (NT$380), one of the restaurant’s creative dishes, is stewed Taiwan pork belly (instead of bacon), with rice, egg yolk and black caviar. It’s an unforgettable, flavory dish.
C. The 12-inch Half Moon Pizza is a hearty Naples-style pizza that contains 2 flavors—stewed beef cheeks with rockets, blue cheese, and ricotta cheese inside.
D. The pan-fried, then roasted Eggplant Wrapped Jack Fish (NT$360) contains sliced eggplants, tomatoes, water bamboo shoots and basil oil.
E. Trattoria Reggiano’s white walls, wooden tables and chairs make diners want to spend more time here. Aside from lunch and dinner, the restaurant also provides afternoon tea and weekend brunch. Ricotta Cheese Cake (NT$150/slice) is actually the most traditional cheese cake, and has since become unusual. Unlike the American-style creamy cheese cake, Trattoria Reggiano’s no-flour cheese cake made with Galbani ricotta and mascarpone cheese has lower calories and a lighter taste. Marie Brizard Mandarin Liqueur also adds a different sweet flavor to the cake.
