As its name suggests, this new DaAn district nightlife spot is the offspring of the now-13-year-old Mod. Owner Dabao explains that at Sequel it is all about a philosophy of the experience of life manifested in enjoying the details. There is a heavy emphasis on quality whiskies (glass NT$200 and up, bottles NT$3,000 and up), which will likely make this bar popular with single malt whisky fans. The food is carefully chosen to pair nicely with alcohol. Two good choices are the Taiwan Salty Pork (NT$300) and the Xinjiang-inspired Cumin Mutton Chop (NT$320), which is lightly and nicely spiced. There are also some cocktails unique to this bar (NT$250+) and their good selection of beers runs from NT$150 and up. --By Courtney Donovan Smith, translated by Ann Lee
A. The interior is classy and classic but remains cozy. A dash of eccentricity is added by a large tree located further just inside the front door.
B. Be sure to try the O.T.L.O. (Oyster, Tequila, Lemon juice...Oh my god! NT$400). First, down the shot glass of giant raw oysters. Follow this with the Patron Tequila and finally top it off with a shot of tomato juice and sour mix. The aftertaste is fantastic. Quite an experience!
